WE CURRENTLY HAVE A VACANCY FOR A CHILDREN AND FAMILIES WORKER. PLEASE SEE THIS LINK FOR DETAILS.
Children and Families are an important part of life at St John’s and All Saints and are welcome to join all of our services. Both churches have child-friendly areas which you can use; (St John’s pictured here with All Saints’ to follow) these contain a selection of toys, books and craft materials which will support your child’s worship. We’ve tried to provide quiet toys, but please don’t worry if your child does make a bit of noise! You’re welcome to use the toys in the area or take them back to your pew.
There are also a number of services and activities that are especially suitable for children, these include:
Kids Church is a fantastic opportunity for children to explore their own faith in a playful way; through stories, songs, games and craft. Kids Church is open to all children and runs on 2nd and 4th Sundays at 10:45am. On the 2nd Sunday, we join with the main congregation for the Peace and Eucharist. Parents are welcome to either leave their children to join with the main congregation or to stay and worship with their children in Kids Church.
All Age Services
Both churches have an All Age Service once a month.
All Saint’s, Landbeach, All Age Service runs on the 1st Sunday of the Month, at 10am.
St John’s, Waterbeach, All Age Service runs on the 3rd Sunday of the Month, at 10:45am.
All Age Services are a fantastic opportunity for the whole church family to worship together. The services tend to be a bit shorter (maximum 1 hour), music is usually more modern and we aim to actively include children and adults alike!
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a crèche every week. However, we enjoy having babies worshipping with us and please do not worry if they make a noise! If you do need a quieter area to sit, we have a small room at the back of church, which you are welcome to use.
If we have enough volunteers, you can leave your baby with the Kids Church team, on the 2nd and 4th weeks.
Nappy changing facilities and breastfeeding cushions are available and we are always happy to heat up bottles or food if necessary!
Parent and Toddler Groups
St John’s runs Toddler Groups on Monday and Friday mornings, from 9:30 – 11:30am in the Church Room. We aim to provide a welcoming, fun, play environment for you and your toddler. Voluntary group leaders are Chris Campbell (Monday) and Holli Bielby (Friday) and each session cost £1 per family.
St John’s, along with the Baptist and Salvation Army Churches in Waterbeach, runs a Holiday Club for one week during the summer holidays.
This Summer, Beach Churches Together got chilly with their Polar Explorers Holiday Club.
A team of intrepid volunteers from the three Waterbeach Churches (Baptists, Salvation Army and St John’s) came together to run a holiday club over 5 mornings at the beginning of August. Joined by around 50 children from the village, and with the help of some New Testament Explorers, we discovered that we were Never too Old or Young, Never too Bad, Never too Ordinary, in fact “Never too…” anything to be part of God’s big adventure.
Each morning started with a mix of songs and story-telling. Children then split into their four teams (Huskies, Penguins, Polar Bears and Killer Whales), to complete their daily expedition. This included crafts, games, discussion about the bible stories and, new for this year, sports on the rec for those older children who wanted it. Then all the teams joined back together for more songs, drama from our young leaders and prayer.
The week was great fun and on the last day we had a ‘Frozen’ Dress Up day, in which everyone dressed up either as a Polar Explorer or as a character from Frozen.
We are very thankful to all the volunteers who helped and to the Waterbeach Community Association for their generous donation, which again helped us to keep the Holiday Club free to all the families that came.
Holiday Club 2016 will run in the week beginning 1st August – so make sure you get the date in your diary!
We pride ourselves on being innovative and we enjoy putting on occasional one-off events targeted at children and their families. Example include; Explore Easter, Explore Advent, Crib Services and Science Weekend
Beach Churches Together are planning a Light Party, to take place on Saturday 31st October from 4:30 – 7pm. More details to follow!
